Hex thin lock nuts (half height hex nuts), also known as lock or jam nuts, are designed to be installed beneath a larger nut. When tightened, the thinner nut deforms slightly, creating a locking effect on the thread as the larger nut is secured.

  • Can be useful where head clearance or thread protrusion is limited and a full-height nut will not fit.
  • The clamping capacity is lower than that of a standard nut due to its reduced height. Use in pairs (one thin nut and one full-height nut) to create a jam-locking arrangement.

Nuts must be selected to match a compatible bolt grade and material system to ensure proper strength and performance.

Common uses Indoor or dry conditions only. Typically used in automotive, machinery, and electrical assemblies where fasteners are not subject to moisture, condensation, or outdoor weather exposure.
