Hex flange nyloc nuts are a type of prevailing torque nut designed (without) serrations on the underside. They incorporate a nylon insert near the top of the nut, which slightly reduces the internal diameter. When the nut is threaded onto a bolt or screw, this insert deforms around the threads, creating friction that helps lock the nut in place and resist loosening from vibration.
