DESCRIPTION

Flat Round Washer - Brass - 5/32x3/8x21g (Box=200)

(Price per unit)

Flat washers are used to increase the bearing surface beneath a nut or bolt head, distributing the clamping force over a larger area.

They are particularly useful when fastening soft materials or components with oversized or irregularly shaped holes. A flat washer also provides a smooth, even surface for the nut or bolt head to bear against, helping to improve load distribution and reduce the risk of surface damage.

Flat washers are the standard washer used in most bolted connections and are typically installed beneath the nut, the bolt head, or both.

Uses: Suitable for electrical and electronic assembly work, plumbing systems, and marine hardware applications. It is also commonly used in decorative and architectural fixings, as well as food and beverage equipment.

It is ideal for joints where the following are more important than maximum strength:

  • Corrosion resistance
  • Electrical conductivity
  • Appearance / finish quality

Note: To ensure optimum strength, corrosion resistance, and long-term performance, flat washers should be selected from a material compatible with the bolt and nut. For example, use stainless steel washers with stainless steel fasteners, and galvanised washers with galvanised fasteners.

BRASS

Brass is a copper–zinc alloy commonly supplied in free-machining grades such as C360 (US designation) or CZ121 / CW614N (European designations).

Brass fasteners are non-magnetic, conduct electricity well, and offer good resistance to corrosion in many natural environments.

Important note: Brass has a lower tensile strength compared with carbon steel or stainless steel and is not assigned a strength class under AS/ISO 898 standards. It should not be used in high-load / structural applications.

Extended exposure to ammonia should be avoided, as it may lead to stress corrosion cracking.

Advantages of Brass

  • Solid resistance to corrosion in typical outdoor, freshwater, and maritime settings
  • Good electrical and thermal conductivity, often used for grounding and heat transfer purposes
  • Non-magnetic properties, making it suitable for electrical, electronic, and instrumentation uses
  • Antimicrobial surface, which can be beneficial in marine, food, and pharmaceutical environments
  • Gold-like appearance, often selected for decorative, architectural, and hardware / carpentery situations.
