An extra large heavy-duty, oversized flat washer made by Hobson Engineering. It's commonly used in structural steel, timber, and construction applications where a larger bearing surface is needed to spread the load and reduce the risk of pull-through

They are typically installed beneath the nut, the bolt head, or both.

  • Wide Surface Area: Features a larger outer diameter than standard flat washers to bridge oversized holes.
  • Load Distribution: Protects soft substrates like wood, plastic, or light steel from crushing or dimpling.

Note: For galvanic compatibility always pair the washer material to the bolt & nut: stainless bolt & nut to stainless washer, galvanised bolt & nut to galvanised washer.

Mixing materials can create corrosion & less durability in damp, wet environments.

Galvanised is a dull greyish colour and rough in appearance. HDG products are used where a high level of corrosion resistance is required. HDG products are recommended for long term outdoor applications.
 
Note: galvanised nuts are typically paired with galvanised bolts to prevent uneven corrosion (called galvanic corrosion). Mixing them with non-coated or different metals can shorten their lifespan.
