A skid plate cup washer is a type of washer used when installing a skid plate (a protective or 'armour' metal plate under an all terrain vehicle that shields the engine, transmission, fuel tank, control arms, drive shaft or other components from rocks and impacts.

The cup washer is a dished/concave washer that sits between the bolt head (or nut) and the skid plate. It helps by:

  • Spreading the clamping load over a larger area of the skid plate
  • Preventing the bolt head from pulling through thin or softer skid plate material
  • Adding stiffness around the mounting hole
  • Helping protect the skid plate surface from deformation.

They are often used with:

  • Skid plate mounting bolts
  • High-strength fasteners (commonly metric sizes like M6, M8, M10, M12)
