Hex set screws are fully threaded fasteners, with the thread extending up to the underside of the hexagonal head. If you require an unthreaded section, known as a shank, you should select a hex bolt instead.

Suitable for metal-to-metal connections, equipment assembly and other applications requiring consistent and dependable clamping force.

Screw:  Similar to a bolt but has a much longer thread almost to the head. It can be tightened with a nut or a threaded through hole or a blind hole. In some instances, a screw could cut or form its own thread (eg. timber screws, thread forming screws).

Material Compatibility To ensure optimum strength, corrosion resistance, and long-term performance, hex set screws should be selected from a material compatible with the associated washers and nuts. For example, use stainless steel hex set screws with stainless steel nuts and washers, and galvanised hex bolts with galvanised nuts and washers.
