LOCTITE® 577

General purpose thread sealant for metal pipes and fittings

When you need a general purpose thread sealant with high temperature- and contamination-tolerance, as well as effectiveness on inactive and active metals, choose LOCTITE® 577. Designed for the locking and sealing of threaded metal pipes and fittings, this product provides an instant, low-pressure seal and won't creep, shrink or shred. Perfect for use on stainless steel without the need for surface activation, it offers gap performance to 0.25 mm (0.01") and will cure even in the presence of minor surface contaminations from cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion and protection fluids, or cleaners containing surfactants and corrosion inhibitors.

How to use

1) Preparation

Cleaning - It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7070 Cleaner & Degreaser to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.

Activation - If cure speed is too slow due to passive metals (stainless steel, aluminum and plated metals) or low temperatures (below 5°C), use LOCTITE® SF 7649 activator. Allow to dry.

2) Application

Apply a 360° bead to the leading male thread, leaving the first thread free. For bigger threads, apply both on male and female threads.

3) Assembly

Assemble fittings using wrench tightening in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations.

4) Disssembly

Disassemble with standard hand tools. If not possible, apply localized heat to approximately 500°F/260°C; disassemble parts while hot. For corroded or seized parts use LOCTITE® LB 8040 Freeze and Release.
